【Properties】This product is a whitish or light yellow granule.
【Pharmacological Action】
Pharmacodynamics: Flunixin Meglumine is a potent cyclooxygenase inhibitor with analgesic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-rheumatic effects. The analgesic effect is achieved by inhibiting the synthesis of peripheral prostaglandins or their pain-sensitizing substances, thereby blocking the transmission of pain impulses. The anti-inflammatory effect in peripheral tissues may be due to the inhibition of cyclooxygenase, reduction of prostaglandin precursors, and suppression of other mediators causing local inflammatory responses. Flunixin Meglumine does not affect gastrointestinal motility in horses but may improve hemodynamics in animals with septic shock.
Pharmacokinetics: After a single intramuscular injection in pigs (2.2 mg/kg body weight), the plasma elimination half-life is 3 to 4 hours, the peak concentration is 2.94 μg/mL, the time to reach peak concentration is 0.4 hours, and the drug can still be detected in the blood 18 hours after administration. The apparent volume of distribution is 2.0 L/kg, and the bioavailability after a single neck injection is 87%.
【Drug Interactions】
(1) Concurrent use with other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may exacerbate gastrointestinal toxicity, such as ulcers and bleeding.
(2) Due to the high plasma protein binding rate, when used in combination with other drugs, Flunixin Meglumine may displace other drugs bound to plasma proteins or itself be displaced by other drugs, leading to enhanced effects of the displaced drugs, or even toxicity.
